Tuesday November 11th, 2008 marked a very special and historic Remembrance Day. A Remembrance Service by the Sikh Canadian community was held at the gravesite of Private Buckam Singh at Mount Hope Cemetery in Kitchener Ontario. It was a powerful and moving ceremony which honoured both Buckam Singh and all those who have fought and sacrificed their lives in war from WWI to the present. The ceremony started at 11:00am and included:

Ardaas the Sikh congregational prayer by Gursev Singh
Canada's National Anthem 'O Canada' by the congregation lead by Deepa Ahluwalia
'In Flanders Fields' poem read by Arjan Singh Brar
Call to Remembrance by Sandeep Singh Brar
'Last Post' bugle
2 minutes of silence at 11:11am
Laying of the Wreath at Private Buckam Singh's grave by Sergeant Gurpreet Singh Dipak, 23rd Field Ambulance, Canadian Forces & Retired Indian Army veteran Harjit Singh Bains
Laying of the Wreath at the Memorial to soldiers from Kitchener/Waterloo who died in WWI by Air Cadet Gurpreet Kaur Banga and Sergeant Gurpreet Singh Dipak
Singing of 'Deh Siva Var Mohe' the Sikh national anthem by the congregation lead by the Bhai Sahibs from Kitchener Gurdwara
Concluding Ardas prayer by the Bhai Sahibs from Kitchener Gurdwara

The historic nature of this ceremony were recorded in a Book of Condolences that those at the ceremony took time to sign. Among the guests of honour in attendance were members of the Waterloo Regional Police Force. There was a symbolic continuity of the passing of the torch from Sikh Canadian military pioneer Private Buckam Singh to a new generation of Sikh Canadians in the military with the presence of Sergeant Gurpreet Singh Dipak of the 23rd Field Ambulance and Air Cadet Gurpreet Kaur Banga who both participated in the wreath laying ceremonies.
