Hukamnama of Guru Tegh Bahadur

An early administrative hukamnama from Guru Tegh Bahadur the 9th Sikh Guru (1621-1675) addressed to the congregation of Benares (Varanasi). Addressed to the congregation and its senior respected members it blesses the congregation and verifies that congregation donations delivered by Bhai Dial Das sucessfully reached the Guru. The Hukamnama endorses Bhai Dial Das and asks the congregation to follow his leadership.

The Supreme Guru (God) is Truth

Addressed to Bhai Jawehar Mal, Bhai Bhati, Bhai Sibhu, Saith Kaliyan Mal, Puran Mal, Bhikhari Das, Babu Rai, Mani Jadho, Heera Man Das, Maharaj Durga Das, Mani Koka Deo. To all the congregation of Benares (Varanasi) the Guru shall cherish you. This human life will be fulfilled, and good tidings will come to the congregation. The blessing (donation) sent with Bhai Dial Das has reached the court of the Guru. The Guru will fulfil the wishes and desires of the congregation. The congregation should follow what Bhai Diaal Das says. The Sikhs' welfare will be ensured.
