On arrival at the Gurdwara (Sikh place of worship) the two families officially meet in the Milni ceremony. Usually this takes place outside the Gurdwara, but since it was a cold day the ceremony took place inside the Gurdwara. Although the groom is present for the Milni, the bride is not, she will make her grand entrance later at the Anand Karaj ceremony. Ardas, the common Sikh prayer is being performed here by the Giani (a learned religious scholar) as everyone in the bride and grooms family stands at attention during the prayer. This will be followed by formal introductions of family members who will then exchange hugs, garlands and gifts as they have their photographs taken.
